Is it alright to leave out a leather punchbag outside overnight?
Panserbøurne asked:
Details – leather punch bag, compacted cloth interior, zipped top. Does leather run etc and can rain get through zips?
Don’t worry about the sun, we rarely get that =( kk so I’ll have to hoist it into place every day or else get some sort of cover for it

NO – or at least seal it from water. Neither the leather or stuffing fairs well being wet. Wet from either rain or “dew” will cause the leather to stretch and eventually mold/mildew to grow.

As a motorcycle rider who wears leather outside, I guarantee rain will come through the zippers. They are not waterproof.
Also, sunlight is very drying to leather and will make it crack in time without frequent use of a leather conditioner.
Rain on leather is not a good thing. In time, it will rot the leather.
So to answer your question; no, do not leave it outside.

The other guys are right, rain will ruin your bag. What is it hanging from? If it is a tree limb, I see no good solution. If it happens to be hanging under a deck. you could make a roof over the bag, under the deck, that would keep most rain off of it. Get a full sheet of plywood, and put roofing felt over it, and attach to the underside of the deck. Do not put it up so it is perfectly horizontal — on one side puta 2X4 under it so water will run off, away from the house.

Depends on the neighborhood.
