Are my motorcycle gloves protective enough?

Question

I have a pair of perforated leather motorcycle gloves. They are reinforced in the palms and seem sufficient to me to keep the skin on my hands and fingers during a slide, but they have none of the armor on the knuckles or fingers that I notice a lot of other gloves have. Is it worth it to invest in a pair of more protective gloves? And if so, can anybody recommend a good pair in the sub $50 range? Thanks

I ride a cruiser, I don't push the limits but I do go on the highway, so speed is an issue.

Answers

it depends on the kind of riding your going to be doing. dirt, yes i would get better gloves. street, if your on a sport bike and plan to push the edge a bit, i would also upgrade, but if your just cruising day to day, the gloves you have will offer enough protection to survive a fall at lower speeds.

economy is tough so i understand wanting to save money, just becareful not to do it at the cost of personal safety

I'm not sure what model mine are but they're Fox and they work great. They have what you're talking about. They're just not leather. I dirt bike and My hands have been ok every time I go down. A glove it a glove, dirt bike or street, padding or no padding. You don't need to get new gloves, but it would be a bit safer.
